Gunpowder tea was introduced to Morocco by a hapless merchant who had been unable to sell his shipful of it at the front line of the Crimean War. Sulking on his return to the UK he dumped the tea on the slightly surprised populace of Casablanca. It was the start of something beautiful. La Caravane, in its iconic boxes, is now Morocco’s favourite brand. It’s earthy, smoky and rich while maintaining the delicacy of green tea, and it goes with everything.
